Introduction

 

The Postgraduate Program in Food Science and Technology of the Federal University of Tocantins (PPGCTA/UFT) seeks to meet regional, national and international expectations in tune with modernity in order to interact in the social environment and create areas of convergence for all initiatives for economic and technological development. The focus is on building a solid, modern infrastructure capable of supporting the development of food companies in a wide variety of sectors, with several laboratories in place and in operation.

The PPGCTA / UFT is concerned with prioritizing the labor market demand in the state of Tocantins and other states of the Legal Amazon, as well as contributing to the development of new technological processes for the processing of raw materials of the Cerrado - still little known and exploited industrially, and contributing to the value added and the potentialization of family agriculture, with a consequent improvement in the quality of life of the rural producers, who have a significant presence in the interior regions of the state.

The program also seeks to become a reference center in the state in the topics related to food safety, food, nutrition and biotechnology, as well as assisting in the processing chain of the main fruits produced in Tocantins and empowering professionals through the deepening of knowledge, skills and competences in its lines of research such as quality control and food safety, development of new food products and biotechnology applied to the food industry, for applications in dynamic and flexible professional performance in industrial, research and teaching activities.
